Setsuna is a taciturn individual who only speaks when talked to. He is slow in trusting others, preferring to rely on himself instead in dealing with problems. He does not have much interaction skills to speak of, and as a result, he does not have many friends. Setsuna also has issues with being physically touched and does not enjoy any sort of invasion into his private space. The young man holds a rather cynical view towards life and human behavior. He is highly devoted to his cause of changing the world to a better and more peaceful one. He was separated from Celestial Being for a short period of time, and even his inability to contact the other members of the organisation did not deter him from repairing his damaged Gundam to the best of his abilities, observing the group A-Laws, and attempting to carry out intervention against the group by himself. April 7, 2291 AD – Aries Setsuna does not believe in the use of diplomatic approaches to any arguments and would rather go head on with any confrontation with force. He understands that using force to resolve conflicts is a contradictory action and hardly more efficient than diplomacy, but he prefers to fight because it is the only thing he can do well. While he is quite capable of receiving instructions and obeying them, his attitude is very much “do first, explain later”. He has gotten into trouble several times due to his rashness, with fellow Gundam Meisters and crewmates alike. Notably, this attitude remains unchanged as he matures, and as he recruits two members into Celestial Being, he thinks nothing about giving information about the secretive organisation to a prospective member, and openly addresses a returning member by her code-name in front of a man who used to be part of the Union army. Gundam A product of his turbulent childhood as a child soldier in the strife-torn Kurdish Republic is Setsuna’s denial of the existence of gods. However, there is still one thing that he holds in complete reverence – Gundam, the powerful and highly advanced Mobile Suits owned by the private paramilitary faction known as Celestial Being. He has been saved by Gundam on more than one occasion, which further strengthens his belief that Gundam is a harbinger of salvation rather than a tool of war. Perhaps because of his utmost respect for these humanoid Mobile Suits, Setsuna feels a great attachment to his Gundam Exia and aspires to become Gundam. He places complete belief into the power of Gundam, as seen when he pilots the 00 Gundam for the first time. Although previous trials to test-drive the new unit failed, he did not panic when the 00 Gundam did not activate fully for he was confident that the 00 Gundam would be able to run properly. Thrust into an unknown area with no sign of any existence of his saviour, he feels as though an essential part of him is missing. |
| - background - |
| Ever since his birth in the strife-torn Republic of Krugis, Setsuna's life has always revolved around wars and conflicts. Then known as Soran Ibrahim, he was 8 when he was recruited by Ali al Saachez into the KPSA, a terrorist organisation, under the guise of fighting a holy war. He was to become a soldier who would fight in the war between the Republic of Krugis and the larger country of Azadistan. However, before he was fully accepted into the organisation, he had to murder his own parents to prove his devotion to his God, an action which he did in cold blood. Years later, he would come to regret the heinous crime he had committed, and would renounce his faith, declaring that gods do not exist. Setsuna stayed and fought for the KPSA for three years, and by the time he was 11, he was already disillusioned by the war and the world, no longer believing in the God which Ali al Saachez often spoke of. The turning point in his life came at this time - he was one of the last few surviving soldiers who were still fighting the losing battle. Cornered by the Azadistani army's ANF mobile suit, Setsuna was sure that he was going to perish - until an unknown mobile suit shot down all the ANF mobile suits of the Azadistani army, in effect saving him. His saviour was unlike anything Setsuna had seen before. Instead of the sluggish, bulky mobile suits that the Azadistani military owned, the unknown mobile suit was sleek, and was flying. That day, when he looked upon the mobile suit, he could not help but feel that he had just been saved by an angel from Heaven. It is not certain what happened to the child soldier right after the war, which resulted in the fall of his homeland. At the tender age of 14, he was recruited by the private paramilitary organisation, Celestial Being, as a Gundam Meister. It is around this time when he adopted his current name, which was his codename, Setsuna F. Seiei. He was 16 when Celestial Being finally went public with its intentions, in the year 2307 AD, to bring peace to the world through armed intervention of wars, thus officially beginning his journey as a Meister with his Gundam Exia. In 2308 AD, the three power blocs of Earth joined forces and initiated an operation - Operation Fallen Angels - in an attempt to destroy Celestial Being and Gundam. After a fierce battle with Graham Aker, Setsuna was seen drifting in space within his embattled Gundam, unconscious, having escaped death by a few centimetres - the beam saber of Graham Aker's mobile suit had missed his head by that mere length. After regaining consciousness, he went into hiding and repaired his Gundam Exia to the best of his abilities. He did not contact Celestial Being, choosing instead to observe the newly formed Earth Sphere Federation by himself, travelling to various parts of the world to see for himself if Celestial Being's struggles had given birth to the peaceful world he had always longed to see. However, what he saw was a world forced to be united under aggressive military force. The news painted a rosy picture of a strifeless, integrated global system of countries, but the reality was that the Earth Sphere Federation was undertaking harsh and cruel measures to suppress those who were against the authoritarian regime. Deeming the Federation to be a source of conflict, he set out to gather more information about the group's intentions. His search eventually brought him to various space colonies, notably Proud, where individuals, who were accused of being part of the rebel group Kataron and deemed to be threats to the regime, were forced to do manual labour under high-gravity conditions. He attempted to engage members of the A-Laws, the secret police of the Federation, in battle but was almost overpowered until he was saved by Tieria Erde. After the battle at colony Proud, he rejoined Celestial Being, becoming the designated pilot of the new 00 Gundam and eventually going on to recruit two members for the organisation. |
